Trancoso is fertile ground for different artistic expressions, such as ceramics, sacred masts, flags, paintings and basketry. The village has shaped a unique identity, combining tradition and creativity in each piece, which is now celebrated in the decoration of the region's houses, pousadas and restaurants.

Learning about the art and stories behind these ancestral skills from some of the region's greatest artisans is a unique opportunity to truly connect with the roots of one of Brazil's oldest villages.

Sacred masts
Colors, promises and symbols

The sacred masts are part of a tradition practiced for hundreds of years in Trancoso and are raised every year with sacred flags in front of the church in the center of the Quadrado, carrying promises to São Sebastião and São Brás for better times. From generation to generation, local artists maintain their legacy, bringing art and history wherever they go.

During the workshop, the guest artist shares the creative and production process of the masts: from conceiving the theme, choosing the colors and symbols, to preparing the wood for painting. Participants will be able to paint their own mini masts, ending with the application of a special sealer that protects each piece and preserves its history.
